Sahibi, one of her ships, made its first voyage on October 29, 1643, to Mecca and Medina. But, beyond receiving revenue from Surat, she also contributed to its prosperity. The seas also added to the wealth of the royal women, Jahanara being one of them. The Mughals’ revenue from Surat, a prosperous town, was an estimated 07.5 lakh a year. While 80 per cent of the revenue of the Mughal state came from agriculture, overseas trade, too, brought in taxes. The sea did have an impact on the royal treasury. He is also said to have enjoyed a round of drinks with the briny sea air.īut the royal jaunt apart, the revenue figures indicate that trade was lucrative. The Visual Studio/SSDT QuandaryĬall it a learning disability, but I have tried time and time again to use the Visual Studio tabular designer to manage SSAS projects with the same outcome. But now (drum-roll, please) Power BI dataset can be developed and deployed to a workspace using enterprise tools through the magic of the XMLA endpoint. These capabilities do exist, however, for Analysis Services projects and community supported tools like Tabular Editor and DAX Studio. To maintain a streamlined product, we are not at all likely to see enterprise capabilities (like version control, multi-developer code merging and scriptable objects) added to this product. One of the reasons Power BI Desktop is such a wonderfully streamlined product is that the feature set is optimized for data analysts and not for IT developers. It was a good idea – and still is in moderation – but this approach produced a delicate and complicated beast that was difficult to manage and had many potential points of failure. Some of you will remember the time when the Business Intelligence message from Microsoft was that we supposed to create solutions relying on coordinated components of many products like SQL Server (relational, SSIS, SSAS and SSRS), Windows Server, SharePoint and Office – all orchestrated to work together seamlessly. The reason that new features can be added weekly to the Power BI service and monthly to Power BI Desktop is that one product team manages all those features. Negotiating co-development of any product by several different teams is difficult within any organization, particularly one as large as Microsoft. The Power BI product team is entirely focused on developing one product by a development team under unified leadership, with a focused set of objectives. Without getting into all the reasons that it has been difficult for Microsoft to develop and maintain a rock-solid tabular model design add-in for Visual Studio, contrast that effort with the evolution of the Power BI product. However, history has demonstrated that the notion of stitching together several different products and expecting them all to just work together seamlessly is just untenable. It’s a great product for developing software and a variety of business and data solutions. I want to be clear – I love Visual Studio. ![]() So, yes, I am not absolutely done using Visual Studio for managing projects other than SSAS, and perhaps for code check-in …I’ll finish this part of the story in a bit. Now, before anyone has a chance to comment and say “Paul, what the are thinking? Visual Studio is an essential tool and there are certain things that you can’t do with out it!”, I agree and will continue to use SSDT for a few key features. However, at some point I the life of a project it just makes more sense to transition the data model to an enterprise-scale effort. It’s faster, more convenient and just easier than SSDT. I prefer to use Desktop to perform model design. ![]() It’s a joy to use compared with my early experiences using SSDT for tabular model design. Not only does Power BI Desktop include a lot of great features, it is stable and streamlined. The Tabular designer was fragile to put it mildly.Įnter Power BI… Initially intended for self-service data model and report design, Power BI Desktop has quickly grown into a robust and full-featured BI design tool. In 2012 when Microsoft began the transition from on-disk cubes to in-memory SSAS Tabular models, I used SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT) to create tabular models. Back in 2005, I used the Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS) Visual Studio add-in for SSIS, SSRS and SSAS projects to develop BI solutions with multidimensional cubes. For several years, Visual Studio has been my go-to tool for designing semantic data models used for Business Intelligent reporting. When we were invited to the launch of the 2001 Protege we were surprised to hear that changes were being made only two years after its redesign. Why? Because Mazda wanted to get it right completely right. The horsepower was boosted, the already natty interior was given a stylish update and the suspension and steering was further refined. Now, Mazda has decided to improve the already highly touted Protege for 2001. In particular, reviewers commented on its precise handling, calling it an "incognito econo-sport sedan." One of the only criticisms of the Protege was that the gas pedal needed to tap a few more horses. When the car was redesigned in the mid-1990s and again in 1999, the accolades increased. When Mazda introduced the Protege in 1990 it received excited reviews and developed a devoted base of owners. And although its price can rise to uncomfortable levels (especially with the ES model), the Protege deserves the attention of people looking for a comfortably quick commuter with spicy style and a good reliability record. The Mazda Protege is a long-time favorite of ours. Enhanced by a taut and well-damped suspension, Protege is the "driver's car" of economy sedans. Credit goes to the first-rate steering system with gobs of feedback, perfect weighting and no on-center dead spot. On the road, the Protege is a bit louder than expected, but it does provide an excellent drive. For 2001, the interior features a new center stack design, new seat and trim fabric, a new interior color, a modular audio system, improved cupholders, ignition key illumination, power window switch illumination, a map light, a lockable glove box, and a lock for the 60/40 split-fold rear seatback. There's also a proper Germanic front-passenger door grip, nicely padded upper door panels where elbows often rest, lots of storage nooks and crannies, a large rear seat, and a commodious 12.9 cubic foot trunk. The driving position is excellent, with a thick steering wheel rim to grip and a properly placed dead pedal for the left foot. The firm seats are comfortable, and the seat height and cushion angle adjustments (on the LX and ES) are greatly appreciated. The attractive brushed-aluminum wheels go a long way toward giving the Mazda an upscale appearance, as do the jewel-like headlight reflectors, angular taillights and chrome accents. Mazda has updated the front end's styling, adding a new grille, hood, fenders and headlights. The Protege is one of the best-looking economy sedans on the market, and the 2001 improvements should only further the car's lead. Torque is rated at 135 foot-pounds, up 12.5 percent over last year's 1.8-liter engine. Optional on the LX and standard on the ES, the new engine puts out 130 horsepower. Power from the 1.6-liter is tolerable, but buyers looking for more acceleration should opt for the new 2.0-liter engine. The ES also comes with features like standard air conditioning, 16-inch alloy wheels, and optional ABS and side airbags.īoth the DX and the LX use a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 105 horsepower and 107 foot-pounds of torque. For options like a driver's height-adjustable seat, power windows and locks, a tachometer, and cruise control, you'll have to step up to either the LX or the ES. ![]() ![]() The base-model DX comes with standard features like power steering, a tilt steering wheel and a split-folding seatback. Sold only as a four-door sedan, the Protege is available in three trim levels: DX, LX and ES. The low immune activation observed in chronically SIV-infected SMs represents a key phenotypic difference from pathogenic HIV/SIV infection of humans and macaques, in which chronic immune activation is a major marker and predictor of disease progression, both in the natural history and in the setting of antiretroviral treatment. The results of the present study indicate that administration of type I IFNs in SIV-infected SMs induces a significant anti-viral effect that is not associated with a detectable increase in chronic immune activation. Flow cytometric analysis of lymphocytes in the blood, lymph nodes, and rectal biopsies did not reveal a significant decline of CD4 + T cells, a robust increase in lymphocyte activation, or change in the level of SIV-specific CD8 + T cells.
